Four people arrested in India over Game Of Thrones episode leak
Police in India have arrested four people suspected of leaking an episode of Game Of Thrones before its air date.
Those accused consist of three current and one former employee of Prime Focus Technology, a Mumbai-based company which stores and processes the hit HBO series for Indian streaming site Hotstar.
The company filed a complaint after the fourth episode of season seven was found on websites ahead of the scheduled air date, with the leaked version having the channel’s watermark on it.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Akbar Pathan (via Hindustan Times), said: ‘We have arrested the four accused. Three of them are employees of the firm while one is a former employee.’
The four have been charged with criminal breach of trust and computer related offences, and will be detained until 21 August.
The episode was leaked on August 4, just days before it was due to air on HBO.
The leak followed a recent hack at HBO, which saw a group apparently steal 1.5TB of data, including HBO employee personal details and episode of Ballers, Room 104 and scripts from Game Of Thrones.
The arrests for the episode leak however are seemingly not related to this prior hack at HBO.
Game Of Thrones season seven is currently five episodes into its run, with the latest offering causing the usual stack of questions we’re frantically mulling over.
Game Of Thrones season seven continues on HBO Sunday, on Sky Atlantic on Mondays in the UK at 9pm. You can catch-up on Now TV.
